Bringing "tablet computers" into the classroom: Smart campus for Nanjing primary and secondary schools

In the classroom, the instructor Shi Lingyan explained the knowledge points and distributed the exercises online, while the students received the exercises and answered the questions online through the learning tablet terminal. Big data technology can also measure students' answers in real time and feed back to teachers, so that teachers can give personalized teaching plans according to each student's answers. Every half month or so, the teaching platform will automatically generate a set of wrong questions for each child to match the expansion training suitable for the child.

"The set of wrong questions automatically generated by the system really helped me a lot. In the past, sorting out the set of wrong questions by myself was not only a waste of time, but also a lack of clarity in content. Now, it not only saves me the time of sorting out, but also gets more targeted exercises, which greatly improves my learning efficiency!" said Chen Jie.

In the Yikang Street Branch of Xincheng Middle School, such teaching method has become a normal. The school has started the construction of smart campus since 2016. At the beginning of its launch, the principal, Ye Xushan, has been very firm in his idea: "We should normalize smart classroom, rather than deal with the 'gimmick' of visiting and checking."

In order to achieve this "normalization", the school, with the support of the Nanjing Audio-visual Education Center, called on children to bring learning tablets into the classroom. "Before putting this idea into practice, we first sought the opinions of children and parents. Considering that not every family may have the conditions to purchase learning tablets, we also purchased a batch of tablets in advance for backup. If we are unable or unwilling to purchase equipment by ourselves, we can also apply to use the tablets provided by the school." said Shen Ying, director of the project management center of Nanjing Audio-visual Education Center.

Now, "bringing tablet computers into the classroom" has achieved full coverage in Yikang Street Branch of Xincheng Middle School. Besides the classroom, the school also actively explores the campus management mode based on the Internet. In the corridor outside the classroom, the green belt based on the Internet of Things is growing vigorously. These green plants do not need to be watered manually, but are automatically watered by detectors buried in the soil according to temperature and humidity; There is an electronic class board at the door of each class, through which teachers and students can view daily information such as class schedule, health evaluation, etc. at any time. Teachers of all departments can also enter the system through swiping card verification to score relevant items. In this campus, a new and growing intelligent teaching ecosystem has been formed.
